We have stories of women in menopause who are going through symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings and the overall feeling of low mood coupled with one of their biggest complaints which is weight gain and not recognizing themselves anymore…
And how they tried to reach out to their doctors but were either dismissed or just offered a patch.
Menopause can be a lonely journey especially if you don’t know where to start or how to manage the symptoms.
And if you have been listening regularly, you’d know that I gained 50 pounds when menopause hit me.
“What the hell is happening to me?” was what I said.
I went to my doctor at that time and was told that I just got to wait it out.
But I didn’t want to wait it out!
So I went to a gynecologist, and to make the long story short: I took hormones, got a period again, but I didn’t want that.
The body has the ability to heal itself and since balancing hormones is an industry belief, I don’t want to brush off some women who can’t take hormones. This means it’s possible to get balanced by making lifestyle changes.
And yet hormone replacement therapy is a fantastic option especially if your doctor understands and recommends a treatment plan based upon your story.
In today’s episode of The Best of The Menopause Movement Podcast, I’m with the first male guest on our podcast, Dr. John Carrozzella who was a former orthopedist who became a hormone and metabolic specialist when his ex-wife descended into MENO-Misery.
He sought out a treatment and when he found it, he made it his mission to help as many people as he could with their hormone problems.
During the podcast, we talked about how he got from orthopedics to hormones PLUS:
– The difficulties involved with practicing medicine in America now, especially as a private practitioner who must interact with insurance companies
– Treating people, not lab numbers
– The science and symptoms of low testosterone in men and where to go for help Menopause and weight
